As we have mentioned in previous articles, for a few years now, solar panel installations have become a great option for many people who want to consume their own energy thanks to the renewable sources that we have.
Do you want to drive change towards a more sustainable world? At PROTenergía we will explain everything you need to know about the different existing regulations.
What is the regulation that governs the installation of solar panels in homes?
It is important to highlight that numerous changes have been included in the new photovoltaic self-consumption regulations to encourage solar energy. Specifically, the regulations for the installation of solar panels in homes are governed by Royal Decree Law 15/2018.
One of the most significant advantages is that those people who want to consume renewable energy and therefore carry out a Self-consumption installation will have more facilities and lower costs. In relation to this cost reduction, it is important to mention that, as a consequence of the sustainable objective set by Europe for next year 2030, the so-called “Sun Tax” has been eliminated, which economically penalised those people who wanted to incorporate solar photovoltaic Self-consumption installations in their homes.
Another of the most important modifications of the new Royal Decree Law 15/2018 establishes that solar energy installations are allowed for shared Self-consumption. That is, the new law allows the same installation to supply energy to different homes.
Finally, it is also important to highlight that the current law simplifies the different administrative and legal procedures that must be followed in order to carry out a Self-consumption installation. In this way and taking into account the different advantages mentioned, the use of renewable energy is made easier and is promoted.
The strategic aspects of the solar panel regulations 2021-2022
In addition to the most significant changes mentioned above, we consider highlighting the main modifications to the current regulations that govern the installation of solar panels in homes.
- As we have mentioned, the rates established in the production of renewable energy will be eliminated by getting rid of the “Sun Tax.
- A new compensation for surpluses is established. That is, in the case in which your solar installation generates more energy than you consume, the excess energy will be poured into the electrical grid so that it can be sold, and you will be remunerated accordingly.
- Finally, it is important to highlight that the rental of spaces is allowed so that other people can generate electricity and thus share benefits.
Is it mandatory to install solar panels on a new house?
The answer is yes. This is possibly one of the biggest doubts that has arisen among many homeowners after the reformulation of the regulations, and that is that, although many citizens are unaware of it, the new law requires solar panels to be incorporated into newly built homes. .
This came into force this year by the EU’sEnergy Efficiency of Buildings Directive , which states that all homes built must have very reduced or almost zero energy consumption. In this way, it is intended that homes consume energy from renewable sources, which must be located in the same building or in its closest surroundings.
This new regulation arises as a consequence of two main factors: The first is because according to the European Mortgage Federation, buildings generate 36% of carbon dioxide emissions in Europe and 40% of energy consumption.
And the second factor is that the European Union considers it essential that all buildings comply with this new regulation in order to meet the objective proposed by the European Union of reaching 0 emissions in the year 2050.
