If you have decided to take the step, and become a PROTagonist to change the world by generating your own solar powered electricity , you should know that there are different legal and administrative requirements to be able to install solar panels. It is for this reason that we want to provide you with the most important information about what is needed to install solar panels below.
Since we have our own engineering specialised in solar energy, at PROT Energía we can help you with all the procedures, so you don’t have to worry about anything. For this reason, we carry out the electrical installation divided into two parts: The first phase is the one in which we carry out the link installation, that is, we take the electricity from the distribution network to the supply point. In the second part, we carry out the interior installation which consists of independent circuits within the supply point (light points and power outlets).
Legal requirements of the regulations for the installation of solar panels
The regulations for the installation of solar panels in homes under the Royal Decree Law 15/2018. Below, we detail the legal requirements for installing solar panels.
-
Prior permission to carry out the installation: One of the first requirements and one of the most important is to request the corresponding building permit to be able to install solar panels. To achieve this, it is necessary to contact your local town hall and request the documents required to obtain the permit. Normally, the city council charges around 5% of the installation budget for this procedure, but in the case of solar panels, it discounts this fee by up to 80%, according to the city council.
-
Access and connection permits: After having completed the installation, the access and connection permit to the network must also be requested from the electricity distribution company. It is important to note that plants less than 15 kW and those that do not discharge the surplus are not required to carry out this procedure.
-
Legalisation of a photovoltaic installation: On the other hand, the photovoltaic installation must also be registered and legalised before the Ministry of Industry since these are electrical generating system.
-
Environmental authorisation: Finally, it is important to comment on the environmental or public utility authorisation process. This authorisation must be held by plants larger than 100 kW, although some Autonomous Community may also require this procedure for lower power plants.
Regulations for the installation of solar panels
After having mentioned the most important requirements, we consider it necessary to also mention that Self-consumption is governed by specific regulations. Specifically, the regulations for the installation of solar panels in homes under Royal Decree Law 15/2018.
In recent years this regulation has been modified to favour and promote the use of renewable energies. These new modifications will allow Self-consumption installations to be carried out in a simpler way and at a lower cost than had been established until now. All the new modifications have been established to be able to meet and reach the sustainable objective set by Europe for next year 2030.
